Penne "Città d' Arte"  is an art city dedicated to and recognized as having art as a central feature to their cultural identity, their economy, their existence, and their tourism from establishing a culture of the arts.

Penne is today among the most important towns in the Vestini area, sitting in the hills between the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea and opening the way for the National Park of Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga through the Regional Natural Reserve "Lake of Penne".

The widespread use of bricks in every historical building and paving gave Penne the appellation of "Città del mattone", i.e. the "Town of Bricks". In 2006, Penne was awarded the Silver Medal of Civic Merit for events suffered during World War II.

The economy of Penne is driven mainly by tourism, agriculture, the regional hospital and Brioni, the Italian fashion house whose suits are still hand sewn by Pennese women.

In November 2017, Penne was chosen as the starting point for Stage 10 of the 2018 Giro d'Italia. Cyclists left from Penne and climbed to Rigopiano and then beyond to Umbria.

Penne (Italian pronunciation: [ˈpenne], locally [ˈpɛnne]; Pònne in the local dialect) is an Italian town in the province of Pescara, in the Abruzzo region, in mid-southern Italy. According to the last census in 2014 the population was 12,451. In 2012 Penne was selected as one of the "Most Beautiful Towns of Italy" (Borghi più belli d'Italia) 

Penne (Pònne in dialetto locale) è un comune italiano di 12 037 abitanti della provincia di Pescara in Abruzzo. Dal 2012 la città di Penne è stata ammessa nel club dei Borghi più belli d'Italia.

Di origini pre-romane, sorge in una zona la cui frequentazione da parte dell'uomo risale almeno al Neolitico medio; fu antica capitale della popolazione italica dei Vestini, e nota ai romani come Pinna Vestinorum.

Il comune è situato a uguale distanza tra il mare Adriatico e il Gran Sasso d'Italia, presentandosi come porta di accesso al Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga attraverso la Riserva naturale controllata Lago di Penne. La cittadina è inoltre il centro principale della comunità montana Vestina di cui ha ospitato la sede per molti anni. L'utilizzo del mattone, presente in tutti gli edifici e nei resti di alcune pavimentazioni, ha conferito a Penne il titolo di “città del mattone”. Nel 2006, le è stata conferita la medaglia d'argento al merito civile per le sofferenze, le distruzioni e le vittime provocate dall'ultimo conflitto mondiale.
